    • A Little Christmas Inspiration and a Farewell

      Dec 4th

Hello there crafty friend! Crystal here from Tawny Owl Paperie with my final blog post for Scrapping for Less. I have a quick card to share that I created using the October 2020 FOTM and then I’d like to go down memory lane a little bit with you. This is kind of a long post, but it’s mostly pictures… with a little chatter. I hope you’ll stick around until the end.

I just love the Merry Christmas sentiment in the Christmas Elements stencil that was included the in the Banana Split subscription of the October 2020 FOTM card kit. I actually used it and had planned on sharing an extra card for the hop and reveal for the October kit but I didn’t have enough time. So I set it aside for another day. I have a quick video sharing my process for this card.
You can check that out… here.
I really love how this turned out! I hope you like it too!
      Now for some reminiscing…
Way back in August of 2017 Teresa and Kim asked me to guest design for Scrapping for Less. This is my second card as a guest designer. Why didn’t I share my first card? Well… I like this one more. lol
After a short guest design gig, Teresa and Kim asked me to join the design team and I was so elated!!
I’m very grateful for the opportunity that Teresa and Kim gave me… it was literally the beginning of a crazy crafty journey that has led me to design for other companies and start my YouTube channel AND to illustrate some of my very own physical and digital stamps.
So I just want to say a BIG THANK YOU to Teresa and Kim!!
Now I’m going to share some of my favorite cards over the 3-1/2 years that I’ve designed for SFL and throw in some of my favorite cards created with my own stamps that I designed for SFL too.
One of my absolute favorite cards… a slimline before the latest slimline trend! I colored and paper pieced this sweet scene way back in November 2018. You can check out the original post here… Have a Magical Christmas.
Another favorite… the black base and pop of Fall colors really make this card so beautiful. You can check out the original post here… Fall Breeze card.
Now this card has a special place in my heart as the first ever stamp that I designed for Scrapping for Less. I really enjoyed the process going back and forth with Teresa and Kim designing this beautiful stamp. You can check out the original post here… Nordic Winter card.
      Bright Fairy Wishes
      Fairy Warm Winter
      Bright Winter Wishes
I was so honored when Teresa asked me to design the first ever stamp sets to be released outside of the card kits. I had so much fun designing the adorable Winter Fairies and the coordinating Fairy House. So much fun to illustrate and then to see them as physical stamps… awesome! There’s still a few sets available in the shop if you’d like to add these to your collection {click the links above}!!

What little girl doesn’t dream of being Cinderella?! I had a blast drawing these glass slippers. You can check out the original post here… It’s All About the Girls. And there’s still some of these sweet Glass Slippers in the shop!

Often times, Teresa would just give me a general idea for the stamp and let me run with it. I sure love the way this one turned out… I drew it with my daughter in mind. You can check out the original post here… Layered Stencils for CAS Cards. This cutie is still available in the shop… Live Your Best Life.
Another fun one that turned out really cute. Here’s the original post… City Streets and Country Roads. There’s only a couple of these left in the shop… Country Roads.
I had to giggle a little when Teresa shared her idea for this stamp. A chicken blowing bubble gum…?! Haha!! Definitely a fun request and one that I enjoyed drawing. Here’s the original post for this one… Bubble Galore. You can add this hilarious stamp to your collection here… Blowing Bubbles.
And the last stamp that I designed for Scrapping for Less… I adore snowmen so this one I will cherish forever! Here’s the original post for this one… Christmas is Covered.
Well… that was a little long, but I hope you enjoyed reminiscing with me. I do have one last card to share and this one is my absolute favorite card of all time while creating for Scrapping for Less…
I love love love this card! The design is so pretty. I’m so happy with the coloring on the die cut pieces. And that sentiment speaks to my soul! You can check out the original post here… City Streets and Country Roads Sneak Peek. This die is actually still in the shop!! Get it here… Flowery Camera die!!
Okay. Well, I’ve delayed the end here long enough. Thank you for following my crafty journey while with Scrapping for Less. If you’re interested, you can continue following my crafty journey here:

    • 4 Cards – 1 Mini Collection – Featuring SFL FOTM April Card Kit Collection 3

Posted at 8:27 am by Christine Patterson
      May 18th

Hello Everyone! Today I finished up Collection 3 from the April Flavor of the Month Card Kit! For 2 of these cards I was inspired by fellow design team member Stacy!

      Card 1

I cut down the yellow pattern paper for my main panel and grabbed 2 scraps to line on the bottom. I stamped the image out and die cut with a circle die. I saw that Stacy had use Distress Ink for this image on one of her cards and I LOVED the look so I did that here. I used Vintage Photo Distress Ink. I then gathered the twine and tried to tie int he center for a messy bow and used Range Multi Matte Medium to adhere it to my card. As the card sat on my desk, I kept thinking I needed a little something more so I added the 3 enamel dots to the upper, right corner of the card.

      Card 2

This card is VERY similar to card one. I didn’t have a long enough scrap for the bottom of the card so I used a stitched sentient die with a fishtail end. I popped the image up on foam adhesive and brought in more enamel dots .

      Card 3

This card it nothing like how I imaged it would be when I started. I used a larger “scrap” to die cut the Camera with flowers die that was found in the banana split portion of the kit. I added that piece to some yellow pattern paper from the collection with liquid glue – and what a mess I made!! There was so much glue I either had to scrap the piece or figure out how to cover it up. I decided to press on and cover it up. I used Nuvo drops to basically “color” the piece. I used Nuvo Glitter Drops in Yellow Bird for the flower pieces, Nuvo Crystal Drops in Woodland Green for the leaves and the Camera piece I used Nuvo Glitter Drops in White Blizzard.

      Card 4

This is the last card I made from this collection. I decided to try coloring the image with Copic Markers (these types of images are a little intimidating for me because I tend to be too heavy handed and my colors bleed so I tried to approach the coloring of this image by not trying so hard – and I think it worked.) I used up most of the left over pieces of pattern paper and also added the last 2 enamel dots I received in this collection.

The process video can be found HERE at the the SFL YouTube Channel.

The April 2020 Flavor of the Month Card Kit is sold out however the paper pads from the kit are available for individual sale (or if you just NEED MORE!?)

    • City Streets and Country Roads Card Kit ~ Flowery Camera Die

Posted at 9:00 am by Crystal O. Minkler
      May 8th
Hello there crafty friend! Crystal here from Tawny Owl Paperie sharing another sweet card using the fabulous Flowery Camera die by Scrapping for Less from the City Streets and Country Roads card kit!! I just adore this die… I colored the die cuts for my sneak peek card before the reveal of the kit. That was so much fun!! You can check that card out here —> my Sneak Peek card!
This time I wanted to piece the die back together using different papers… just like a puzzle! I don’t know about you, but I love puzzles and piecing these die pieces back together was so much fun! And I have all kinds of pieces leftover to make more cards with!! I started by die cutting Chocolate card stock for my die base. I adhered that to a piece of copy paper and then fussy cut it out.
Then I die cut the Flowery Camera from three different papers in the Country Roads paper pack and adhered all of those pieces to my Chocolate camera. Isn’t it just so pretty?! I love how it turned out! Now if you didn’t snatch up one of these fabulous card kits while you had the chance, be sure to check out the A La Carte section of the website… you can still purchase the gorgeous papers and some of the other products in the kit!!
Did you see the little extra glittery goodness I added to my card? These gorgeous glittery papers by DCWV are available in the A La Carte section of the shop AND they make such a great addition to the card kit!! I really loved the Mojo Monday sketch that the design team used for our hop and reveal so I decided to use it again for this card. You can check out the sketches that the DT used here —> April 2020 Sketch Sheet. I trimmed all of my paper layers and adhered them to a Chocolate card stock card front measuring 4-1/4 x 5-1/2″. I wrapped a piece of Natural Twine from the Country Roads Collection around those paper layers and tied off a knot. I then adhered the panel to a white card base from my stash. I popped up the stitched arch that I die cut from the text papers and then adhered the die cut Flowery Camera directly to it.
I think it turned out lovely!! I decided not to add a sentiment at this point because I’m just not sure what occasion I’m going to use it for. Do you ever do that with your cards?
I hope I’ve inspired you to pull out your City Streets and Country Roads card kit and get some inky time in… or maybe some paper piecing time since I didn’t actually get inky with this card! Lol!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
      See ya next time.
      Inky Hugs,
      Crystal

    • April 2020 FOTM Card Kit ~ One Last Sneak Peek!

Posted at 9:00 am by Crystal O. Minkler
      Apr 24th
Hello there crafty friend! Crystal here from Tawny Owl Paperie and I am sharing the last sneak peek of the absolutely amazing City Streets and Country Roads Card Kit that releases tonight!!! Eeep! You are going to love this kit!! It is seriously gorgeous… and amazing!!
I seriously LOVE each of the collections this month… Gorgeous!! But the Banana Split subscription this month has that extra bit of crafty goodness that just tops the cake!! How absolutely stunning is that camera with the dainty flowers and leaves…?!? I just HAD to use it for my sneak peek! I die cut it from the Neenah 110 lb. Classic Crest Smooth Solar White card stock included in the kit and colored it using copic markers that coordinated with the gorgeous papers included in the Country Roads collection:
      Flowers ~ R0000, R14, R56
      Leaves ~ Y11, Y13, Y15, E41, YG91, YG93
      Camera ~ N0, N2, N4, N6
I colored most of the pieces while keeping the die cuts intact, but some of the camera pieces were so small I took them out and colored them. I then adhered the entire die cut piece to a piece of white copy paper and fussy cut it around the edges.
I trimmed the beautiful patterned papers and adhered them together. I then wrapped a pretty yellow ribbon from another collection around the layers and adhered the panel to a white card base from my stash. I then die cut a piece of white card stock with the Stitched Arch STAX die… adding this piece helped the gorgeous camera to pop on the card. I stamped the empowering sentiment from Your Best Life stamp set in Collection Two with VersaFine Onyx Black Pigment Ink and die cut it with a banner die. I added a tiny piece of patterned paper to the edge of that sentiment and then popped it up on the card. To finish off the card, I added a few of the black sequins included in the Banana Split subscription. So… I used three of the collections and a couple of elements from the Banana Split to make this beautiful card!! I am telling you this kit is A MUST HAVE!!! Go subscribe here —> City Streets and Country Roads Card Kit!!
Be sure to come back tonight at midnight EST to check out the reveal of the card kit and to hop with us as the design team shares all kinds of amazing inspiration!!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
      See ya next time.
