    • December Christmas Card Challenge ~ Rustic Watermelon Victorian House

Posted at 12:00 pm by Crystal O. Minkler
      Dec 1st
Hello there crafty friend! Crystal here from Tawny Owl Paperie with inspiration for the new December Card Challenge for the Scrapping for Less: Show & Share Facebook group! This month is a Christmas Card Challenge. Super easy peasy… just enter your newly created Christmas card to the album! I think this would be a great way to get us inking up the new products from the October 2020 Christmas is Covered card kit!! But really you can enter any Christmas card that you’ve created, but please only newly created Christmas cards!
Before we get any further… the key to playing along with the challenge is being a member of the Scrapping for Less: Show & Share Facebook group so if you aren’t already a member be sure to join in the fun —> here. Also, please note that you don’t need a blog to enter the challenge as you’re adding a photo of your creation directly into the challenge album in the group. You are welcome to include a link to your blog in the description of your creation, if you’d like.
Ok… enough chit chat… let’s get to my card!
So… I had a little fun with this card. Do you recognize the patterned paper I used? If you said Rustic Watermelon, you’re right!! Yes, I had a fun idea for a pink and green Christmas card using the Rustic Watermelon papers. What do you think?! It’s different… but I think it works!
I used the scalloped rectangle die and stitched rectangle die from the My Favorite Things Blueprints 20 dies. For the focal image I die cut white card stock with a Stitched Rectangle STAX die, also from My Favorite Things. I wrapped the focal panel with a light pink 1/4″ grosgrain ribbon from my stash. I then tied a knot with the ribbon and cut fishtails on both ends for a faux bow. I did some simple copic coloring on the house with the following Copic Markers:
      House ~ W00, W1, W3
      Roof/Accents ~ N2, N4, N5
      Windows ~ Y06, Y35
      Bows ~ R27
      Wreath ~ G000, G14
      Snow ~ C00, C2
      Christmas Lights ~ Y06, YR15, R27, G14, B02
And since I was already working on the one card, why not make two!
It took me a bit to find a green ribbon that works well with the green in these papers. I ended up using New Leaf Topnotch Twill Tape from Papertrey Ink.
Here’s a closer look at the added shine from the Ranger Glossy Accents that I added to the windows and Christmas lights. Such a fun touch to the house!
I have a video on my YouTube channel sharing my process in making these cute cards!
You can check the video out… here!

I love how these two cards turned out using non-Christmas papers! I hope you like them too and are inspired to join us in the Christmas Card Challenge!
The December Christmas Card Challenge will run from today, December 1st, and will end December 31st at 11:59pm EST. The winner will be announced in the comments of the challenge album on Friday January 1st. Please use #sflchristmascardchallenge in any social media posts when playing along with the challenge. I can’t wait to see what you create!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
      See ya next time.
      Inky Hugs,
      Crystal

    • September 2020 Fall Color Challenge ~ Let’s Bundle Up and Get Cozy!

Posted at 9:00 am by Crystal O. Minkler
      Sep 1st

Hello there crafty friend! Crystal here from Tawny Owl Paperie and today I’m sharing the new challenge cue over at Scrapping for Less: Show & Share Facebook group. I don’t know about you all but I absolutely LOVE Fall colors… the rich combinations of earth tones along with the regal tones… it makes my heart so happy to play with these colors!! I thought it was time to switch things up and do a color challenge!

Before we get to the color challenge… a little business… the key to playing along with the challenges in the Scrapping for Less: Show & Share Facebook group is being a member of the group so if you aren’t already a member please join us here!! We’d love to have you come join us! Also, please note that you don’t need a blog to enter the challenge as you’re adding a photo of your creation directly into the challenge album in the group. You are welcome, however, to add a link to your blog in the description of your creations if you’d like.

Let’s check out the Fall Color Challenge cue…

      {Photo Credit: love-palette.tumblr.com}
Stunning color combo, am I right? I love it!
We have a dark green, light olive, deep yellow, yummy orange, rich cranberry & luscious eggplant.
Of course, if you don’t have these exact colors it’s ok… just try to use similar ones. And you can incorporate any neutrals that you need for your design.
Here is my card… using the gorgeous Cozy Fall papers from Scrapping for Less along with the adorable Bundle Up stamp set from Hero Arts. Both of these products are available in the SFL shop!!
If you’ve been playing along with our sketch challenges in the Facebook group, you may recognize the sketch I used for my card design. This is one of my favorites for featuring pretty papers… so I just had to use it. I stamped the cabin with Vintage Photo, Walnut Stain, and Hickory Smoke distress ink cubes carefully inking it up in sections. I then colored it just a little for highlights with my Copic markers. I stamped a few leaves, acorns and pine cones on a scrap of white card stock with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and colored those in with Copics, as well.
Here’s a list of the Copic markers I used:
      Cabin ~ N0, N2, E23, E25, E55, E57
      Pine Cones ~ E51, E55, E57
      Acorns ~ E21, E23, E25
      Leaves ~ Y11, Y15, Y35, YR15, YR21, YR68, R000, R05, R14, R27, R39, R46, R56
      Sky ~ Y000, Y11, YR15, YR21, YR23, YR27
I also die cut the Autumn Blessings die twice from the dark green paper in the Cozy Fall paper pad. I adhered those together and then adhered them to a piece of the cream sweater paper. I trimmed that down and mat it with the dark green paper. I adhered the sentiment to the focal image and then popped it up on the card front. So… what do you think? I think it turned out pretty cute and it’s definitely got me excited for Fall!
I hope you’ll come by the Scrapping for Less: Show & Share Facebook group and play along with the September challenge. It starts today and will end September 30th at 11:59pm EDT. The winner will be announced on October 1st in the challenge album. Please use hashtag #sflcolorchallenge5 in any social media posts when playing along with the challenge. Can’t wait to see what you create with this gorgeous Fall inspired color palette!!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
      See ya next time.
      Inky Hugs,
      Crystal

    • SFL Sketch Challenge #5 Extended ~ May 2020 FOTM Card Kit

Posted at 9:00 am by Crystal O. Minkler
      Jun 1st
Hello there crafty friends! Crystal here from Tawny Owl Paperie
sharing a card for the May challenge for the Scrapping for Less: Show & Share Facebook group which is extended through June!! The May challenge is a fun sketch challenge and since we’ve included the sketch in the May 2020 Sketch Sheet that’s available to download on the Scrapping for Less website, we thought it would be a fun idea to extend the challenge and let everyone have some more time to play along and maybe even use their May 2020 Let’s Encourage Once Another Card Kits in the challenge!!

So, the key to playing along with the challenge is being a member of the Scrapping for Less: Show & Share Facebook group if you aren’t already a member —> join here!! Also, please note that you don’t need a blog to enter the challenge as you’re adding a photo of your creation directly in the Challenge album in the group. But you are welcome to include a link to your blog in the description of your creation, if you’d like.

      Here’s what Sketch Challenge #5 looks like…

I have a couple of cards using this sketch to share with you…
My first one is from the reveal and hop for the May 2020 Let’s Encourage One Another card kit… this was a very fast card to create. I literally didn’t stamp one thing for this card. I just trimmed the patterned papers and adhered them to a white card base. I die cut the oval from white card stock and adhered it to the card. And the sweet Little Lady Ephemera pieces and enamel dots finished off the card! Easy Peasy!
My second card is also using products from the Little Lady Collection of the May 2020 card kit. I trimmed my patterned papers and adhered them to a white card base. I die cut a wonky stitched oval die from white card stock. I used the cloud stencil from the Banana Split subscription and blended a little scene for the ladybug and her daisies with Tumbled Glass and Mowed Lawn Distress Oxide inks. I used Shabby Shutters and Mowed Lawn Distress Markers for the shading under the ladybug and the stems of the daisies. I stamped the sentiment on a scrap of white card stock and mat it with the Lemon Drop card stock. I adhered the sentiment to the bottom of the oval scene and then popped up the oval and sentiment strip with foam squares.
I used the following Copic markers to color the stamped images in this card:
      Ladybug ~ R000, R14, R46, N0, N2, N4, N5
      Daisies ~ Y11, Y13, Y35
I thought about adding a couple enamel dots but the pretty daisies in the bottom right corner work right along with the sketch design so I left it as is. I sure hope that you’ll play along with our fun sketch challenge.
This challenge will continue until June 30th at 11:59pm EST. The winner will be announced on Wednesday, July 1st in the challenge album. Please use #sflsketchchallenge5 in any social media posts when playing along with the challenge.

And I’d like to invite you, again, to come play along with this challenge over in the Scrapping for Less: Show & Share Facebook Group! We’d love to see what you create using this fun sketch!

Thanks so much for stopping by!
      See ya next time.

      Apr 4th

Hello and happy Thursday!  Katie here from 2CraftyKaties welcoming you to the Scrapping for Less challenge for April 2019!

This month’s challenge is a mood board challenge! You can only use the colors on this board (and white and black, of course).  You do not need to use all the colors, but just these colors!  The theme this month is “Spring” and these colors are a vibrantly perfect!

The challenge will run from today, Thursday, April 4th and will end on Wednesday, May 1st at 11:59pm EST.  The winner will be announced on Thursday May 2nd in the Facebook Scrapping for Less: Show and Share group.

You do not need a blog to enter any of our challenges. There is an album in our Scrapping for Less: Show and Share Facebook group and you upload your photo to that album.

Please read the rules (in the group under files) and message myself, Teresa, or Kimberly if you have any questions.  We look forward to seeing your creations!

      Here is my inspiration:

My mom is a quilter and she makes the most amazing quilts.  I found this “Pinwheel” design and copied it and added to it.

I started by cutting 3 or 4 1-1/2″ squares and fussy cutting them on the diagonal.  I found the center of my card and started laying down the pieces.

      Here is what I used

      Scrapping for Less

      “Hooray” die

Paper used “Orange Fizz”, “Grapesicle” “Sno Cone” “Razzle Berry” & “Lemon Drop”

Thank you for stopping by.  Make each day creatively crafty and stay tuned for more craftiness!
